In this paper, a parameter of difference degree which is defined from the inner product of two coherence matrices and the span difference is given. An iterative algorithm based on difference degree is proposed to classify polarimetric synthetic aperture radar images. The new classification method has less computing than maximum likelihood classifier based on the complex wishart distribution. The application to AIRSAR image shows the algorithm’s effectiveness and convergence stability.
