An improved homogeneity criterion for the Lee filter is proposed, which takes into account not only the variance of the speckle noise, but also statistical properties of the local estimates of the mean and the variance used to calculate the filter coefficient. Also, a rule for selection of the thresholds for 1D and 2D wavelet-based filters is presented taking into account the statistics of the speckle noise and properties of the chosen wavelets.
