Abstract:
Passive integrated power electronic modules realise both an inductive and a capacitive energy storage function in the same volume. The implementation of these modules has been application specific with no generalised theory as to how to design the structure in order to achieve a specific response. To lay the foundations for just such a theory an exhaustive search of all possible configurations of a three-layer integrated passive module was performed. From the exhaustive search a number of trends were discovered that caused the modules to yield specific results. The investigation was carried out from a simulation point of view. Further, various ways in which a configuration can be manipulated in order to alter the modules behaviour in a predictable manner are highlighted.
