Abstract:
This work identifies key methods that should be taken into account when designing a MAC protocol for the fourth generation (4G) of mobile radio networks. Knowledge and experience gained from studying state-of-theart systems are the basis for these proposals. Combining the merits of two state-of-the-art categories of MAC protocols, the Frame Descriptor Table concept gives an example of how to realize the goals envisaged for 4G mobile radio networks. The concept promises to be a key element in 4G MAC protocols.
