Abstract:
The delivery of voice and video services across access networks is much more demanding than the delivery of traditional high speed internet services. The sustained and peak data rates to users are significantly higher, pushing DSL capacity to the limits. In addition the sensitivity to packet losses is significantly greater, particularly for video services. This paper discusses research on enhancements that can be made to DSLAMs such that the most important packets get delivered during times of network congestion, and efficient ways to provide additional targeted forward error correction for sensitive services such as video.
