We show that the performance improvement obtained by electronic pre-distortion in 40-Gb/s transmission systems with different fibres using in-line optical dispersion compensators is limited to about 3 dB by inter-channel cross-phase-modulation for both on-off-keying and differential-phase-shift-keying.
