We propose a dispersion compensation strategy that enables smooth migration from low-initial cost (with 10Gb/s NRZ) to high ultimate capacity (with 40Gb/s RZ-DQPSK) for 50 GHz-spaced photonic networks, and demonstrate transmission reach beyond 1350 km.
