Abstract:
This paper reviews current trends in nanohandling with a specific emphasis on scanning probe microscop based handling and self-assembly techniques. Automated micro-robot based nanohandling is described in more detail. Here, the robot has closed-loop control using sensory information without any user intervention. With this system, tremendous benefit can be gained from the controlled handling of matter on the nanoscale. Smart microrobots may play an important role both as a high-throughput automated nanohandling technology as well as a complementary process to other techniques.
