Abstract:
This paper is to analyze that the nuclear power plant facilities under construction in the area of Shin-Wolsong in Korea are designed to be protected well from lightning and to seek the method for an optimal design of the lightning protection system in the nuclear power plant facilities based on the domestic statistical data related to lightning. The data used in analysis has applied lightning parameters of the quantitative and statistical normal distribution accumulated from KLDNet (Kepco Lightning Detection & Information Network). As the results of analysis, we could find that the expected efficiency values and lightning protection level (LPL) according to the number of thunderstorm days per year are different. Also, the probability distribution of the maximum stroke current could find that the lightning protection system (LPS) designed with the assumed maximum rolling sphere radius(R) is distributed lower than the probability obtained from the median value of the stroke current, and we could predict the magnitude distribution of the stroke current through the probability analysis.
