Abstract:
UPS provide protection to sensitive loads, and transformer-based double-conversion units provide top protection. However, traditional thyristor-based rectifiers offer suboptimal input performance, while unity power factor operation may be obtained by implementing the rectifier as a Current Source Converter. This paper details the design and validation of control and protection algorithms of a Current Source Rectifier for UPS applications. Particularly, robustness of such algorithms is verified by exposing the system to events such as voltage distortion, voltage variation (sag, swell) and other stressful conditions.
