Abstract:
For different applications, different measurement techniques are suitable to characterize saturation behavior of inductive components. Depending on special properties of magnetic materials, differences in the results of more than fifty percent can be found. In this paper, we discuss the physics behind the effects and the corresponding methods for simulation. We recently presented a new method for simulating small signal inductance versus dc-bias measurement [1]. By using the proper material characteristics, this method and the established methods allow the simulation of the different magnetic material effects. The simulation methodologies are verified by an example switching-frequency filter-reactor.
