Abstract:
Basic planar windings structures are not optimum for converter topologies for higher power (>250W) application. Two advances will be presented to address this. Finite element analysis of the flux paths in traditional planar cores will be used to redesign for a more uniform distribution, increasing the effective core cross sectional area within a given geometry. Then, a novel winding technique can be implemented that will reduce the leakage inductance and increase the throughput power.
