Abstract:
An efficient method for rapid calculation of the temperature by means of the thermal impedance using the system control theory for model reduction is presented. The method reduces the total RC elements in a Foster- or Cauer-Network such that sufficient accuracy and minimal number of RC elements are achieved simultaneously. Consequently the calculation time of junction temperature is reduced to a minimum. The method delivers a very good approximation and fast calculation of the junction temperature in comparison to the full characterization of the semiconductor’s thermal system. Furthermore the method can be applied for use in both 1D- and 3D-temperature field calculations and therefore avoiding time consuming finite element simulations.
