Abstract:
The main requirements on inverters are high power at minimum space and good electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). These requirements can be achieved easier with multi-level inverters compared to standard two level inverters. Applications for such inverters are operation of induction machines for mining industry or generators with active front ends in wind energy plants. The design of a medium-voltage inverter in neutral point clamped (NPC) topology for future integration into the motor connection box will be described. A suitable microcontroller for the operation and the control of the inverter will be selected and a modified space vector modulator with DC link voltage balancing will be implemented and verified.
