Abstract:
This paper presents a method for calculating the core losses of electrical steel under waveforms, which are typical for inductors of filters in power electronic applications. Due the non-linearity of the Hysteresis it is not possible to calculate the core losses by using the superposition method. A transient model is used, which based on the principal of loss separation. The core losses of electrical steel are measured with a special measurement system, which can simulate typical waveforms from inductors in power electronic applications. With a developed high frequency Epstein frame it possible to measure with high accuracy also in deep saturation at high frequency. Measurement results and calculation results are compared with each other.
