Abstract:
This paper discusses the new method to calculate AC losses of power Inductors (filter, storage & coupled Inductors) in power electronic applications with rectangular driven voltage waveforms. AC loss is the loss occur in the core and windings of a power Inductor caused by AC flux swing. The new model is proposed to overcome the disadvantages of Steinmetz equation and its extensions. The experiments conducted on various materials (MnZn, NiZn, iron powder & WE-superflux) have shown the model to be very accurate over wide range of frequency and duty cycle. Dependability on core manufacturers for core loss charts will be avoided.
