Abstract:
In this paper a model based predictive control of a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine) with variable frequency PWM is presented. Finite Control Set Model Based Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) with variable switching frequency without modulator has been reported in other research works. Yet the high performance of FCS-MPC can be combined with methods that use conventional modulation techniques with the purpose of optimizing some other variables, in the present case the torque ripple and the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the current. Furthermore, if the torque ripple can be predicted and controlled, a compromise between switching losses and maximum torque ripple can be found. This implementation can be realized by means of a FPGA, which combines very fast times of execution, parallelism and the pipelining of algorithms.
