Abstract:
For most drive applications, a wide range of standard converters is available on the market. In some special cases, a custom drive solution is required. Sometimes, for a customized solution, a standard converter can be modified, that a special version of the standard product can be offered. But sometimes, a complete custom design of the converter is required. This is time consuming, expensive and needs a lot of expertise in this area. A complete custom development is required for topologies different from three phase half-bridge power stages, for complex mechanical geometries or for special regulation or control requirements. These specialized converters can use different pulse control techniques for different working points of the motor, which can be important for high performance drive solutions.
