Abstract:
Different materials for power inductor cores are investigated concerning their specific corelosses under different conditions. The characteristic magnetizing curve, the BH-loop, of soft magnetic cores could change dramatically, if the application consists of considerable mean valued currents. Core losses are related to the area in the BH-loop and are expected to be low for high efficiency circuits. In this paper five different types of materials as ring cores are analyzed either without or with a DC-biased excitation current. BH-loops as results show influence as well as immunity of the application of real conditions to the measurements. The measurements are taken on a BH-analyzer system with the capability of the cross power method by varying the DC-bias operated at four different frequencies.
