Abstract:
In this contribution, a 2 kW isolated on-board DC-DC converter for power distribution systems in electric vehicles is proposed. It consists of two power stages which combine a hard-switching buck converter with silicon carbide MOSFETs and a soft-switching resonant converter. A model of the DC-DC converter including conduction and switching losses of semiconductors, copper and core losses of magnetic components is developed and utilized to identify the best design by numeric optimization of number of turns, turns ratio and length of air gap. In order to obtain a high accuracy of loss calculations, the loss model was calibrated by means of calorimetric measurements. Simulation results show an efficiency of about 98.2 % at full load. At light load, the efficiency can be increased by 0.8 % with Phase Shedding.
