Abstract:
During recent years, the sizes of the Renewable Energy (RE) plants have grown in a way that their effect to the connecting grid can no longer be neglected. To cope with these problems, the Grid operators are forced to review and to tighten their grid connection rules – also known as Grid Code. Key issues are: steady state and dynamic reactive power capability and voltage control. This paper presents a straightforward solution, based on the combination of passive devices (MSC and MSR) + STATCOM, that allows getting Grid Code compliance. The proposed developed control strategy allows to avoid reactive power steps and to damp voltage and current oscillations initiated by the switching events of MSC.
