Abstract:
High reliability, sufficient coverage range and low latency are key features of communication technologies for factory automation (FA) applications. Since state of the art wireless technologies are not entirely fulfilling FA requirements, novel approaches are a current research topic. In this context, a frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) system with inexpensive Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) transceiver technology and adaptive resource management is investigated. The large numbers of locally collocated nodes lead inevitably to intra-system interference, which is analyzed in this paper. On the basis of this interference modelling, allocation schemes for frequency resources are developed and the system’s suitability for dense FA networks is evaluated.
