Abstract:
Transmit power control of wireless links has the benefits of energy efficiency, prevention of eavesdropping and enhanced network sum data rate. Whereas the first two points are obvious, enhancement of network sum data rate has to be proven. Published strategies for transmit power control do not take the attenuation of the buildings’ structure into account. But floors and walls isolate WLANs from each other like a cocoon. Without proper modeling of this penetration loss, approaches to enhance the network's overall data rate by transmit power control are ineffective. We will present the impact of enhanced modeling on the selected transmit powers as well as on the data rates depending on the link density.
