Abstract:
This paper presents an improved bias supply scheme for a universal topology that can be used with both ac and dc energy harvesters and provides maximum power point tracking (MPPT) at the same time. The improved bias supply scheme ensures providing a suitable bias supply voltage even if the harvester voltage is low allowing the topology to operate with very low-voltage harvesters. The principle of operation and the effect of the bias supply circuit on the operation of the topology are discussed and shown in this paper. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the supply scheme when used with as low as 10mV push-button based electromagnetic energy harvester with a minimum impact on converter operation.
