Abstract:
Silicon carbid unipolar devices offer fast switching even for high-voltage and high-current inverters. This can reduce the size and weight of the filter inductors. If a quasi resonant switching technique is used to minimize the turn-ON losses of the semiconductor, the ripple current increases massively while the necessary inductance reduces. This results at challenges for the inductor, which can be handled. The new inductor design results in lower losses and factor four lightweight and smaller inductors.
