Abstract:
This paper presents a novel modulation concept for high-power drives. The topology under analysis consists of a five-phase open-end winding (OeW) machine supplied from a three- and a two-level five-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). This lower-component-count drive is capable of producing phase voltages equivalent to a four- and six-level single-sided drives. Additional degrees of freedom, offered by dual VSI structure, are used for the first time in order to optimize modulation over the complete speed range, with respect to the most dominant constraints: dc-link voltage stability, phase voltage and common mode voltage (CMV) harmonic quality. Experimental verification is performed using a 5 kW prototype.
