Abstract:
Recent investigations have demonstrated that the efficiency of a flyback converter can be increased by employing a transformer with saturable magnetizing inductance. For a proper design and optimization, a fast and accurate calculation method is desired. Therefore, the authors have chosen an analytical approach. For the calculation, the current dependent magnetizing inductance is approximated by a piecewise constant function. This paper compares some methods for determining a piecewise constant approximation regarding high accuracy as well as computational efficiency. Finally, the input current of the flyback converter derived with the analytical calculation is compared to measurement results.
