Abstract:
The green communications concept becomes a leading paradigm in the design of modern communications systems. It requires accurate modeling of energy consumption in the wireless communications nodes to be used, e.g., for system level optimization, and this practical problem is addressed in the paper. The mean consumed power of a number of commercially available wireless transceivers has been measured and characterized as a function of throughput. This allows for realistic and simple energy consumption modeling by means of first-order polynomials.
