Abstract:
AirFue (exp TM) Class 4 standard specifies a power of 33 W and wide relative impedance range of 50 Ω and 296j Ω. ZVS Class D and class E amplifier topologies are still designers’ top choices. This paper experimentally compares the two topologies in differential mode configurations over a wide load impedance range. The amplifiers were built using eGaN(r) FETs for highest efficiency when operated at 6.78 MHz. The choices of different eGaN FETs are also discussed. The differential ZVS Class D amplifier can operate over a wider reactance range and has higher light load efficiency compared to the Class E amplifier.
