The combination of low-rate codes, data distribution and data compression for application in the scope of failuretolerant storage systems is studied. First, we describe a number of specific compressed low-rate codes and evaluate them. Second, a principle is outlined to explore new compressed low-rate codes. Objectives are low computational cost for en- and decoding and an acceptable low storage overhead.
