Abstract:
Battery systems with multiple cells are used in a growing number of applications, besides approved applications such as Laptops or mobile phones, use in stationary energy storage systems and traction batteries, such as those seen in electro mobility or household appliances, is prevalent. In these markets energy efficiency and at least for electro mobility, energy density, are highly important. This paper therefore presents a new optimized balancing strategy with either inductive or capacitive balancing mode. The measured balancing efficiency of the system reaches 96% for a balancing process between any two cells within a module and includes a cell monitor without any additional wiring.
