Abstract:
Concerning an applicable fault handling strategy in HVDC Multi-Terminal-Systems (MTS), robust, communication avoiding fault detection, clearance within permissible voltage and current limits as well as situational converter control behavior have to go hand in hand. A system-wide valid protection scheme has been developed for converter and dc-side Circuit Breaker (CB) action control. Furthermore, a beneficial earthing scheme for bipolar MTS is presented. Investigations are verified using PSCAD/EMTDC software.
