Different solutions for the gate-emitter voltage based short-circuit (”SC”) detection methode proposed in  will be shown. Measurements are being presented, confirming this circuits ability to shut down short-circuits detected with the help of the strong self turn-ON effect. A new developed detection method is presented, enhancing this previously proposed setup to be faster in detecting the SC and to be applicable for RC-IGBTs. Different HV-IGBT Driver-Designs will be compared in respect to their ability to protect low VCE,sat optimized HV-IGBTs from destruction in the event of a fault and to measure the current direction through the module for RC-IGBT applications.
