Abstract:
This paper presents a new unidirectional data transmission method for gate drivers based on a pulse transformer system. In this work, we focus on pulse transformers integrated on gate drivers used for aeronautical applications. The integration of communication functions can achieve online monitoring of power modules and real time setting of the gate driver for a better reliability, flexibility and efficiency. The targeted application is the online monitoring of 1200V SiC MOSFET using parameters measurements on the gate driver. The proposed solution permits switching orders, error management and data transmission on a single pulse transformer to guarantee a high integration density of the gate drive system. In gate drivers, EMC considerations have to be done regarding the proximity between gate drive systems and power modules. Tests have been performed to check the susceptibility of the proposed circuit to hard switching noises.
