Abstract:
This work focuses on the design and implementation details of a Polymer Optical Fiber based communication network for power electronic devices. For this purpose, first the requirements needed in this area are presented. Afterwards the design challenges and the implementation details of specific components such as the optical splitter, transmitter and receiver circuits are shown and discussed regarding their characteristics. Furthermore a prototype was build to prove the concept and to investigate its characteristics. For this purpose one very promising splitter type was selected and a fiber optical communication bus was build. Finally this paper shows the feasibility and the advantages of the new wiring concept and demonstrates therewith the possibility to communicate with multiple network subscribers through a single fiber.
