Abstract:
A living object detection (LOD) system for wireless electric vehicle (EV) chargers including multiple comb-pattern capacitor topology in order to enhance the sensing sensitivity is proposed in this paper. The capacitance changes of the sensor caused by a nearby living object is sensed by a specially built parallel-resonant circuit, which verifies the appearance of the living object. The simulation comparison between the proposed topology and the conventional one proves that more than 50% of sensing sensitivity is increased. Moreover, the design trade-off between high sensitivity and small coupling capacitance is solved in the paper by simulation and experiments. A prototype of the proposed LOD system was built to verify the feasibility. The sensing sensitivity of the system is measured as 30%, which is large enough for detecting living object.
