Abstract:
This paper presents the evaluation of both static and dynamic performances of a three-phase unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) deployed by means of two back-to-back neutral-point clamped inverters to perform the series-parallel connection to electrical distribution system. Since the UPQC operates using a dual compensating strategy, the parallel converter feed the load acting as a sinusoidal voltage source. As a result, the overall system dynamic can be improved due to the series converter does not need any control strategy to compensate the grid voltage disturbances, which usually occurs in the conventional UPQCs applications. The operation of the dual UPQC is tested when it is subjected to stationary/non-stationary power quality events.
