Abstract:
The authors have developed a micro ultrasonic motor for a mesh robot. A mesh robot consists of many small size robot arms to implement an ultra multi degree of freedom closed kinematic chain like a mesh cloth. It can change the shape and the stiffness of its surface to represent a target object. In the first stage of this research, the authors have developed a new micro motor by ultrasonic technology. It has two components: a stator (a cube of 3 mm size) and a rotor (diameter of 2 mm). The authors have designed a new stator and a rotor to obtain high output torque. The first trial motor shows the potential of the final goal of 3 mNm and 3 rpm with a reduction gear system.
