Abstract:
Aiming at maximizing dynamic range while simultaneously minimizing field-off damping force of magnetorheological energy absorbers (MREAs), we proposed the principle of an internal-bypass MREA (Magnetorheological damper utilizing an inner bypass for ground vehicle suspensions, IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013, 49(7): 3422-3425). The internal-bypass MREA is composed of a pair of twin cylinders, i.e., the inner cylinder and outer concentric cylinder, a movable piston-shaft arrangement, and an annular MR fluid flow gap sandwiched between the concentric cylinders. The coil winding is wound on the inner cylinder to provide the electromagnetic field. The mechanical responses of the internal-bypass MREA are further experimentally tested and analysed in this paper.
