Abstract:
This work presents a new biomimetic moving mechanism using multilayer piezoelectric materials. In order to solve wear problem that shorten life span, increase displacement outputs of piezoelectric elements and decrease the requirement for high lever parallelism between the guiding surfaces, the mechanism imitates walking like an inchworm, where two auxiliary clamping units were attached to two clamping units of a traditional inchworm piezoelectric motor respectively by two springs. This advanced inchworm piezoelectric linear motor utilizes outer preloading mechanism to provide clamping forces and this construction avoids the wear problem existing in traditional ones. The functions of two auxiliary clamping units were analysed. The clamping units and its relevant auxiliary ones are assembled close to each other, which require a lower parallelism. The clamping units and pushing units of the inchworm piezoelectric linear motor were designed and fabricated. Experimental studies of motor were conducted. It can be applied in large travelling range and high resolution driving device, optics engineering, precision motion, precision position and micro-manipulation field.
