Abstract:
In this paper we review recent experimental findings showing that imaging (camera-based) photoplethysmography (IPPG) operating with green light provides sufficiently reliable index, blood pulsation amplitude, which characterizes the relative change of the capillary blood flow. The system can be very efficient in the research of physiological and pharmacological impacts on microcirculation. Two examples of the assessment of the impact of local hypothermia and capsaicin on the capillary blood flow (which were not assessed by other methods) are presented in the paper. Green-light IPPG method can serve to create fundamentally new medical equipment for diagnosis and control of a wide range of diseases in which a capillary bed is involved in the pathological process.
