Abstract:
Temporary overvoltages in AC-grids may be generated by faults inside the Low Voltage (LV) system or by fault conditions in the feeding Medium Voltage (MV) system. The paper analyses temporary overvoltages caused by short-circuit events, loss of neutral line, earthing faults and medium voltage failures. Based on the analytical results the risk for AC-loads will be discussed and recommendations for protection reaction time dynamics against temporary overvoltages in low voltage AC-grids will be given.
