Abstract:
Arsenic has been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an environmental contaminant that pollutes surface water around the world and poses severe risks to the human health at concentrations above 10 mug/L. This work shows the development of a simple, cheap and modular lab on chip device (LoC) integrating gold nanoparticle-based electrochemical device for the fast in-situ detection of arsenic in waters. The proposed system combines the advantages of microfabricated electrochemical devices in terms of robustness and superior analytical performance with the excellent features of modular LoC devices related to reconfiguration and automatic sampling and analysis using very low sample and reagent volumes.
