Abstract:
The microelectronic market is in transition. Based on the global market trends, mobile sensing and internet-of-things, integrated microsystem devices and integration technologies become more and more important to achieve product innovations. The research and development institutes have to follow these trends to strengthen the European industry with application-oriented and integrated research and development for future high-tech products. The Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD), a cross-location cooperation, links the research and development infrastructure and the technological know-how of eleven Fraunhofer institutes, as well as two Leibniz institutes. The FMD offers tailored solutions for customers based on a unique pool of competencies along the whole value chain. These offers comprise application-oriented solutions as well as technological innovations within six leading-edge technology platforms across the whole value chain of microelectronics. Smart Microsystems are excellent examples to show the impact of synergetic research to offer complete system solutions to customers. One very important technology for industrial and automotive applications is LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging). With this exemplary application scenario, the establishment of a comprehensive offer for industrial customers based on the combined research within the FMD can be shown.
