Abstract:
Technological evolution is pushing forward digital transition in societal and industrial scenarios. Internet of Things is one of those transversal scenarios where distributed sensing will make a difference. In many applications off-grid and unwired solutions for providing energy autonomy to those sensors will be advantageous. Batteries are the more common solution for such purpose, but the prospect of eventual replacement of billions of primary batteries is of logistic and environmental concern. Energy harvesters can replace, or more generically, help to extend the operational life of batteries. Such elements are mostly maintenance free and produce no pollution. Resourcing to thermoelectricity can be an appropriate harvesting solution when hot surfaces are available.
