Abstract:
The paper describes a technique for conversion from high voltage to voltage 3.3 V. This technique uses the buck converter for creating switched output voltage, i.e. 15 V for example. The conversion to 3.3 V uses another switch connected to the output of the inductor in buck converter to create an input voltage for LDO. The inductor divided by a diode from output behaves like a current source, so the power losses are significantly lower in comparison to classical method when the input voltage of LDO is the output voltage of buck converter. The power losses and dissipated heat comparison of the both techniques are shown in paper as well. Paper also describes the new co-package IC that consists of the buck converter and LDO integrating the presented method of high efficiency conversion.
