Abstract:
The main challenge in the electric car domain is autonomy. In order to increase it, some manufacturers have started to look for more efficient, reproducible and lighter new technologies. The idea to replace discrete magnetic by planar magnetic transformers components in DC/DC converters is one of the levers that manufacturers are operating. However, the design of these components operating in high frequency is complex and needs to develop tools and methods for their design. This paper will present two steps of a planar transformer design using finite elements simulations, the first deals with the magnetic behavior. The interest is to find the different sources of Joule’s losses AC and the contribution of each one in global system. The second will study the thermal behavior. It was used Joule’s losses AC results from the first step, the core's losses and DC Joule's losses calculated. To then develop a modeling to improve design for planar transformers.
