Abstract:
In many applications with voltage source inverters for traction purposes the electrical machine is connected using shielded motor cables. According to the traveling wave theory, the transmission line forms an impedance between its conductor and the shield that leads to a charging current for fast voltage transients. This paper investigates the influence of this charging current on the switching behavior of SiC MOSFETs. Special focus of the work is to point out if and for which application the charging currents have to be taken into account when evaluating the switching losses.
