Abstract:
The Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market is growing rapidly worldwide and is expected to reach up to 1TWh by 2025. This growth is driven by the ever-expanding use and penetration of renewables and the drive for decarbonization. With this explosive growth comes the need for safety and reliability. As the market matures, safe deployment, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and end of life goes hand in hand with reliability, affordability, availability, and bankability. This paper addresses the safety aspects of BESS and provides best practices and lessons learned from years of field deployment and experience.
