Abstract:
More and more Power Electronic Devices (PEDs) are gaining the ability of network connectivity to communications networks such as Internet and so they could be targets of cyber-attacks. This paper presents the most common types of cyber-attacks in communications networks, which can also be applied to PEDs. It has been reviewed what would happen with PED’s work after the cyber – attacks are applied on it. Various methods are proposed to protect against these attacks. Blockchain and VPN technologies are discussed. The results of experimental testing of a communication link with and without using of VPN technology are shown. Examples of the application of these technologies are given. It has been suggested to use dark fiber as a way and technology to protect PEDs from cyber-attacks. The application of dark fiber is presented with an example of a possible implementation.
